Approaching Atlantic

Coming up in New York in the early-to-mid 90s, photographer Sue Kwon first cut her teeth at the city’s Village Voice publication. She is perhaps best known for capturing some of Hip Hop’s most enigmatic figures of that era. But her oeuvre has extended far beyond rap. With an intimate, reportage-style aesthetic, she has photographed the sculptural creations of fashion designer Rei Kawakubo, daredevil professional bull riders and the Dalai Lama (with Adam Yauch in tow). For Fall/Winter 18, Sue Kwon captured Indira Cruz – a moonlighting model who teaches kids at a school in downtown Manhattan – in pieces from this season’s Carhartt WIP womenswear collection. Styled by Alice Lam, the series of shots were taken in in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
