Great Britain: NTS Work In Progress - One Year Artists Development Program

NTS Radio is launching a new artist development program, ‘NTS Work In Progress’, taking a selection of talented artists and bands to the next stage of their career over the course of twelve months. This project aims to support musicians from all backgrounds and across all genres – anything from experimental club music through to traditional folk, ambient improvisations, garage punk or hip-hop.

After qualifying as a National Portfolio Organization and through generous funding from the Arts Council England and Carhartt WIP, the London based radio station is hoping to give back to the wider underground musical community that has so long supported the diversity of its programming. Accordingly, NTS encourages applicants of all ages, ethnicities, nationalities, socio-economic backgrounds, gender identities and physical and neurological abilities. Applications are open to performing individuals and ensembles of every persuasion: singers, bands, duos, trained or self-taught musicians, producers, DJs and the as-yet undefined... The program will be run from NTS’ headquarters in London but is open to international applicants who are willing to receive support remotely and make occasional visits to London for workshops and events. This is the first iteration of a four year project, so applicants are encouraged to reapply for 2019-2020 if unsuccessful this year.

Each NTS WIP artist or band will receive a bespoke package of support based on the individual artist’s needs, ranging from paid performance opportunities across the globe to free audio equipment and software. Successful applicants will receive extensive recording studio time and the opportunity to host their own radio show live on NTS. On top of this, NTS will produce a music video for each of the artists and a full set of press photos. Furthermore, all selected artists will receive mentoring sessions from music industry experts, as well as a chance to visit the Villa Lena retreat in Tuscany as an artist in residence.
